On one lonely Wednesday afternoon under the blazing sun and sweltering heat, I found myself seated on the corridor of Nayyar Mosque at Jamia Ahmadiyya International (Ahmadiyya University of Theology). With a drooping jaw held in the palms of my hands, I was sitting cross-legged and gazing out at the school’s field.

This poor soul was ruminating over where he would get funds for a pair of trousers, as his last and most beloved pair got torn accidentally and at that point in time, he felt broken to the core and didn’t want to ask for financial help from anyone.

After few minutes of contemplation, I decided to resort to Allah the Almighty, for He is السميع العليم i.e. “the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing”.

So, in the evening, I retired to the mosque to offer prayers and to call on Allah. During the prayer, I remember reciting 2:187 of the Holy Qur’an which says; “And when My servants ask thee about Me, say: ‘I am near. I answer the prayer of the supplicant when he prays to Me. So they should hearken to Me and believe in Me, that they may follow the right way.‘”

At that moment, overwhelmed with emotion, I nearly shed tears while praying. After completing mt prayer, I recited a few portions of the Holy Qur’an. Then, as I sat there, exhausted and worrying about what I would wear the next day, little did I know that I’d fallen asleep in the mosque. I woke up around 3:45am and found out that I was alone sleeping in the mosque, so I performed ablution and offered my Tahajjud (pre-dawn voluntary prayers).

Then, after Fajr (prayer offered right before dawn), I was still thinking of what to wear to class for the day. While I was ruminating, slumber overtook me. After about 15-20 minutes I received a tap on my back from a fellow telling me to go and prepare for class because it was getting late.

When I woke up, at that instant I had great conviction and confidence that my uniform situation had been sorted out, all the worries I had before taking that nap completely vanished, so I went down to the hostel to get dressed for class.

Lo and behold! I found two pairs of impeccably fitting black trousers on my bed and a blue-black pair of jeans plus another trouser and shirt from the same material (African wear). I asked for the owners to come for their belongings only to hear from a colleague that they were all mine and from different people. I was left in a state of disbelief and wonder, as I had not vocalised my need of black trousers to anyone, especially not at such a crucial moment. I then remembered that since the day before, in all my prayers I had been asking Allah the Almighty to pave a way for me in this situation I found myself in. Upon sitting back and reflecting on how Allah answered my humble supplications in this marvellous way, I then went to my benefactors and thanked them one by one and afterwards proceeded straight to the mosque to offer prayers again, in thanks to Allah for answering my prayers.

From that day onward, I clearly understood the subject of the existence of Allah and nothing has shaken my unwavering belief that there is a God.
