And the servants of the Gracious God are those who walk on the earth modestly and when the ignorant address them, they say, ‘Peace!’

Islam, the Holy Qur’an, 25:64

Shall I tell you of the people of paradise? They comprise every poor humble person, and if he swears by Allah to do something, Allah will fulfill it; while the people of the fire comprise every violent, cruel arrogant person.

Islam, Saying of the Holy Prophet (as), Sahih Al-Bukhari, Hadith 6657

When a person falls at the gate of God Almighty with extreme humility, lowliness and meekness, and presents his circumstances before God… the grace that is inherent in divinity surges forth and shows mercy to such a person.

Islam, Saying of the Promised Messiah (as), Malfuzat – Vol. II, p. 67

Be of an exceedingly humble spirit, for the end of man is the worm.

Judaism, Mishnah, Abot 4.4

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Christianity, The Bible, Colossians 3:12

For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

Christianity, The Bible, Luke 14:11

There is sweetness of humility, O Nanak, it is the essence of all virtues and goodness.

Sikhism, Guru Granth Sahib, p. 470

Nanak seeks the company of the lowest of the low class, the very lowest of the low. Why should he try to compete with the (so-called) great? In that place where the lowly are cared for, there the blessings of Your glance of grace rains down.

Sikhism, Guru Granth Sahib, p. 15

Be humble, be harmless,

have no pretension.

Be upright, forbearing;

Serve your teacher in true obedience, keeping the mind and body in cleanness.

Tranquil, steadfast, master of ego, standing apart from the things of the senses, free from self, aware of the weakness in mortal nature.

Hinduism, Bhagavad Gita 13.7-8
