World Faiths – True Intellect

He grants wisdom to whom He pleases, and whoever is granted wisdom has indeed been granted abundant good; and none would be reminded except those endowed with understanding.

Islam, the Holy Qur’an, 2:270

Do not wish to be like anyone except in two cases. (The first is) a person, whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it righteously; (the second is) the one whom Allah has given wisdom and he acts according to it and teaches it to others.

Islam, Saying of the Holy Prophet (sa), Sahih al-Bukhari

It is true and I also inform you that an individual cannot attain the knowledge comprised within the Qur’an through cunning. Intellectual ability and mental progress on their own cannot attract the knowledge of the Qur’an. The actual means is righteousness. God is the teacher of a righteous person. This is why the prophets are often uneducated in secular fields of study.

Islam, the Promised Messiah (as), Malfuzat – Volume II, p. 142

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.

Judaism, The Tanakh, Proverbs 9.10

Steadfastness in the knowledge of the self, contemplation on the goal of the knowledge of reality. This has been spoken of as knowledge. That which is other than this is ignorance.

Hinduism, Bhagavad Gita 13.11

Who is wise and understanding among you? Show by your good life that your works are done with gentleness born of wisdom. But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not be boastful and false to the truth. Such wisdom does not come down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, devilish. For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there will also be disorder and wickedness of every kind. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy.

Christianity, The Bible, James 3.13-17

A thousand and hundred thousand feats of intellect shall not accompany man in the hereafter. How then can one be purified? How can one throw away the falsehood? Says Nanak, By being content with the Command of God, which is pre-written for everyone!

Sikhism, Adi Granth, Japuji 1, M.1, P. 1
